Max and Moritz
A boy story in seven pranks
Who doesn't know the picture story of the two boys penned by the German poet and illustrator Wilhelm Busch?
It was first published in the autumn of 1865 and is one of Wilhelm Busch's best-known titles.
In his stories, animals always played an important role and not infrequently the spitz, which often does not come off so well...

Max and Moritz
SECOND PRANK
As the good widow Bolte
Recovered from her pain,
She thought back and forth,
That it would be for the best,
The dead, here below
Departed so early,
Silently and with honor
To eat well fried.
Of course, the grief was great,
Now when she's so naked and bare
Lying at the stove, ripped off,
You who once in fine days
Soon in the yard, soon in the garden
Fabulously pawing in the sand.
Oh, Mrs Bolte is crying again,
And the spitz is also there.
Max and Moritz smelled this.
»Crawl onto the roof!« they said.
Down the chimney with pleasure
Look at the chickens,
The ones already without heads and gurgles
Smuggle nicely in the pan.
Just go with a plate
Widow Bolte in the basement,
That they from the sour coal
Get a portion,
What she adores,
When he warms up again.
Meanwhile on the roof
Are you active in the matter.
Max has already deliberately
Bring a fishing rod.
Snupdiwup! There will be upAlready picked up a chicken.snuff diwup! Now number two;snuff diwup! Now number three; And now comes number four:snuff diwup! We got you!
Although the spitz saw it clearly,And he barks: Rawau! Rawau!
But they're already very alert
Get off the roof.
Well! there will be spectacleBecause Frau Bolte is just coming; She stood rooted to the groundWhen she checked the pan.
All the chickens were gone. –
»Spitz!!« – That was her first word.
»O you Spitz, you monster!
But wait! I come to him!«
Big and heavy with the spoon
It's all about lace;
Loud is his cry of pain,
Because he feels debt-free.
Max and Moritz in hiding
But snoring at the hedge,
And the whole chicken feast
Just sticking out one leg.
This was the second prank,
But the third follows immediately....
